The hype for Wonder Woman is real. Not only is it an important film for the DCEU, but it’s also a pivotal point for future female superheroes on the big screen. If it does well, we could be receiving even more female-led blockbusters. If not, well, you know how Hollywood works. Hopefully, come June 2nd, we’ll be discussing the beginning of a new era of superheroines and not the latter.
For too long, women have been getting the short end of the stick when it comes to comic book movies. Either the characters are shoehorned in as romantic interests, or the filmmakers show their complete disinterest in the project and dump a monumental turd in our laps (cough, Catwoman, cough). Well, it’s time for us to put our foot down and say enough is enough now; studios need to take these characters seriously once and for all.
In an attempt to make their lives easier, we’ve gone through the pages of our favorite comic books and identified the nine female superheroes that we believe should get their own solo films. As always, these things are rather subjective, so you’re welcome to give us your thoughts on who should and who shouldn’t be on the list. Just drop us a comment below.
