But in two months’ time, that saga will be summoned onto the small screen thanks to Netflix’s animated Castlevania series. Comprised of four 3o-minute episodes in total – keep in mind that a second (and final?) batch of four episodes is expected to drop sometime next year – producer Adi Shankar has allayed fears that Netflix’s serialized spin on the video game classic would stray too far from the source material.

Not only that, but it’ll seemingly have a “Game of Thrones vibe to it,” which tells us that Shankar and the creative team have rustled up an adult-oriented video game adaptation. Celebrated comic author Warren Ellis is the brains behind the script, and though it’s far too soon to gauge the actual quality of the end product – check out the show’s old-school first teaser here for an appetizer – early signs are certainly promising. Can the show be the one to break the unyielding curse that’s plagued video game adaptations? Time will tell.

Prepare for a delightfully dark dose of nostalgia when Netflix’s animated Castlevania series premieres on July 7th. Adi Shankar and Co. have designed the long-rumored video game adaptation to be a two-part series, with the second and presumably conclusive chapter earmarked for 2018.

Inspired by the classic video game series, “Castlevania” is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself. The animated series is from Frederator Studios, a Wow! Unlimited Media company, written by best-selling author and comic book icon Warren Ellis and executive produced by Warren Ellis, Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert, and Adi Shankar.
