It looks like Kevin Bacon‘s comic book days are not over yet and he will once again turn to the dark side. According to Variety, Bacon is now on board to join the cast of Universal’s R.I.P.D. Bacon will be playing the bad guy in the film, which is based on Peter Lenkov’s Dark Horse comic series. Also set to star are Ryan Reynolds as Nick Cruz, and Jeff Bridges as Nick’s partner in crime.

R.I.P.D. (short for Rest In Peace Department) is a law enforcement agency staffed by deceased policemen dedicated to fighting off restless spirits refusing to depart from this world. The supernatural film will follow Nick Cruz, a cop who has been mysteriously murdered. Determined to find his killer, Cruz trades 100 years of service to the R.I.P.D. for a chance at finding the person responsible for his death.

Excited? I am. After such an entertaining and fun performance in X-Men: First Class as the scenery chewing Sebastian Shaw, I’m looking forward to seeing Bacon play the villain again. He seems to do well when playing the bad guy and it will be nice to see him in the role as he is generally, an enjoyable actor to watch.

R.I.P.D. is set to be released on June 28, 2012.
