Well, it looks like the arrival of new big bad Reign won’t be the only significant addition to the third season of Supergirl. As it turns out, some new blood will be given creative control over the series, which we can only hope will prolong the its success.
Truth be told, the “new blood” we speak of is already familiar to you all, but they’ve been given a huge promotion. By that, we mean executive producer Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller, who’s been freshly promoted to executive producer herself, will be taking on greater roles going forward as they’ll be standing alongside Andrew Kreisberg as co-showrunners for the coming year.
This shift in personnel comes after co-developer and previous co-showrunner Ali Adler has decided to pursue other challenges at CBS TV Studios. Still, the show is in good hands and the decision seems quite natural given that Rovner and Queller have been among the most active in the writers room, and have served as mouthpieces in various featurettes used to promote the series on YouTube.
It’s also been stated that Adler will remain on as an executive consultant, similar to the role Supernatural creator Eric Kripke now serves with the series he created. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise us in the slightest if Rovner and Queller end up taking over in a year or two if Kreisberg decides to shift focus to another DC TV show.
In the past, he was heavily involved in Arrow before entrusting it to Marc Guggenheim and Wendy Mericle when he decided to devote more of his attention to The Flash. Lately, it seems like Aaron and Todd Helbing have been guiding the Scarlet Speedster along, but, for the foreseeable future, it looks like Kreisberg is quite comfortable in National City.
Supergirl returns for its third season on Monday, October 9 on The CW.
