How Does Wonder Woman’s Domestic Box Office Total Compare To Its DCEU Peers?

As it nears its fifth weekend, Wonder Woman is on the verge of surpassing Batman V Superman and Suicide Squad domestically.

It was only a matter of time, wasn’t it?

As Patty Jenkins’ critically-adorned standalone movie nears its fifth weekend on the market, Box Office Guru reports that Wonder Woman is on the verge of surpassing Man of Steel ($291 million), Batman V Superman ($330 million), and Suicide Squad ($325 million) to become the highest-grossing entry in the DC Extended Universe domestically.

As things stand, Wonder Woman is on par with David Ayer’s anti-hero pic with a domestic total of $325 million – a figure which when combined with its overseas haul, makes for a record-breaking $660 million – but all signs point to WW ending its theatrical run in the region of $350 million on home turf, which would put it comfortably ahead of all other entries in the DCEU thus far. Not bad for a movie that was written off as a “discombobulated mess” mid-way through production, eh?

Per Twitter:

Word of mouth has certainly helped Wonder Woman cruise past one box office record after another – the latest milestone being the highest-grossing live-action pic to be directed by a female filmmaker – and those numbers will surely fuel talk of a sequel kicking into gear in the not-so-distant future. Gal Gadot is already contracted to another appearance as the Immortal Warrior – beyond Justice League, of course – while it’s understood negotiations between Patty Jenkins and Warner Bros. are still ongoing. Word is that Jenkins wants to retain full creative control over the follow-up, which is surely something that can be arranged in the aftermath of the first film’s blistering success.

Wonder Woman touched down in theaters on June 2nd. Next up for the DCEU is the release of Justice League on November 17th, and it’ll be fascinating to watch those box office numbers come in in a few months’ time.
