In anticipation for Saturday’s grand finale – a finale that heralds the penultimate appearance of Peter Capaldi’s Time Lord – BBC America has published the full Q&A session from Saturday’s The Finale Countdown Concert and Aftershow in Cardiff’s Millennium Centre.

Pearl Mackie (Bill Potts) and series showrunner Steven Moffat (Sherlock) were in attendance to solicit questions from curious fans, and if you’ve been keeping track of We Got This Covered’s Doctor Who coverage, you’ll likely be able to recall a handful of Mackie and Moffat’s answers, including those concerning Capaldi’s impending departure and why Moffat still considers himself to be the most besotted Doctor Who fanboy. Yes, just because the writer-director is located in the eye of the storm doesn’t mean he’s lost his appreciation of what makes the Time Lord so special even after all these years.

Looking further afield to Capaldi’s true swan song, though, the 2017 Doctor Who Christmas Special is shaping up to be one for the ages, and as Pearl Mackie teases up above, it could also signal the last hurrah for her Bill Potts. Moffat, meanwhile, is confident that the episode itself can deliver a festive treat, and that’s even when you factor in the bittersweet moment in which Peter Capaldi will bid adieu.

“The one thing I have to say is, it’s Christmas Day, we’re gonna keep it funny, and we’re gonna keep it lively, as well as sad. If we cry, they” – by which he means the audience – “won’t. We want them to cry. So Doctor Who will laugh bravely into that good night.”

The aptly titled finale, “The Doctor Falls,” will bow via BBC America this Saturday, July 1st, at 9 pm. The only question left now is, will you be tuning in? And if so, do you have one eye on the 2017 Doctor Who Christmas Special? Do let us know.
