Sharknado 5: Global Swarming Vows To Make America Bait Again With Goofy New Poster

Few film franchises hold a candle to Syfy’s long-running Sharknado series.

This is, after all, a collection of movies unapologetic in their commitment to delivering ludicrous action scenes and a storyline so bizarre – so bat-shit insane – that it’s arguably redefined the ‘so good, it’s bad’ cliché.

Birthed in 2013, the franchise is now on the verge of launching its fifth installment, Sharknado 5: Global Swarming, which promises a whole new concoction of silly science and sharknadoes teeming with hungry fish. Fin Shepard (Ian Ziering) and his bionic wife, April (Tara Reid), are once again back in the thick of things, only this time, their escapades will take them on an international quest to rescue their young son, after he’s swept up by a traveling ‘nado.

Yes, the Sharknado series is about to go global, and as previous snippets have teased, the creative minds at Syfy are ready to fling great white sharks toward any famous monument they can find – Roland Emmerich, eat your heart out – with the Pyramids of Giza and London’s Big Ben among those landmarks set to crumble.

Beyond Ziering and Reid, the official list includes Fabio (as the Pope), Tony Hawk (as a masterful weapons operative strategist), Clay Aiken (as a cutting edge technology genius), Margaret Cho (as a fussy bride whose honeymoon is interrupted by sharks) and Charo (as the Queen of England).

Ready to make America bait again? Sharknado 5: Global Swarming makes a beeline for Syfy on August 6th. Exactly where the series goes from here, though, is another question entirely, particularly now that Sharknado architect Chris Regina has parted ways with the network to “pursue a new opportunity.” More on that as this story develops.

The mission gets personal for Fin Shepard (Ian Ziering) and his bionic wife, April (Tara Reid), when their young son gets trapped in a traveling ‘nado and transported all over the world. From London to Rio, Tokyo, Rome and Amsterdam, the heroes seek assistance from royals, scholars, Olympians and news talking heads in their epic battle.
