First Sharknado 5: Global Swarming Teaser Trailer Targets The World’s Most Famous Monuments

The world's most famous monuments come crashing down in the suitably bonkers first teaser for Syfy's Sharknado 5: Global Swarming.

Thanks to his decorated career behind the lens, Roland Emmerich is often credited as Hollywood’s master of cinematic destruction. From 2012 to Independence Day to The Day After Tomorrow, moviegoers have witnessed Emmerich tear Earth’s monuments asunder (often twice!), but August heralds a new pretender to the throne of ridiculously over-the-top spectacle: Sharknado 5: Global Swarming.

Of course, whereas Roland Emmerich’s movies tend to be more serious in tone (“the neutrinos are mutating!”), Syfy’s cult Sharknado franchise embraces its zany, irreverent nature wholeheartedly, and we’re pleased to report that that satirical streak will continue with the launch of Global Swarming on August 6th.

In order to ramp up excitement, the network has today unleashed the bonkers first teaser trailer, which targets many of the world’s most famous monuments. Returning for another helping of ‘nado action are Fin Shepard (Ian Ziering) and his bionic wife, April (Tara Reid). For chapter 5, their young son has been swept up by a traveling ‘nado, jump-starting an international quest that takes the two series stalwarts everywhere from London to Rio to the winding canals of Amsterdam.

They’ll be joined on the casting docket by Fabio (as the Pope), Tony Hawk (as a masterful weapons operative strategist), Clay Aiken (as a cutting edge technology genius), Margaret Cho (as a fussy bride whose honeymoon is interrupted by sharks) and Charo (as the Queen of England).

The mission gets personal for Fin Shepard (Ian Ziering) and his bionic wife, April (Tara Reid), when their young son gets trapped in a traveling ‘nado and transported all over the world. From London to Rio, Tokyo, Rome and Amsterdam, the heroes seek assistance from royals, scholars, Olympians and news talking heads in their epic battle.

Syfy is poised to unleash Sharknado 5: Global Swarming upon the small screen on August 6th.
