Gotham Casts Crystal Reed As Sofia Falcone

Knowing that Gotham is already set to mine the seemingly infinite well that is the Batman mythos even further by adding the likes of Professor Pyg to its roster this season, it comes as no surprise that other characters originating in the comics will be appearing as well. And while the focus of today's conversation may not ring a bell with the average Joe, the more avid lovers of the source material among you will probably know who we're talking about.

As it turns out, Crystal Reed (Teen Wolf) has been cast as none other than Sofia Falcone, daughter to mafia boss Carmine Falcone. Before we proceed any further, let’s check out the description of her character provided by Deadline:

Strong, intelligent and calculating, she has run the Falcone operation in the south for the past 10 years and is returning to Gotham to help Gordon take down Penguin.

From the sound of that, we can tell she’ll at least be somewhat in keeping with her comic book counterpart, given that Sofia had quite the disdain for the “freaks” that stole the city from her family throughout Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s masterworks, The Long Halloween and Dark Victory.

Now that we think about it, perhaps she – and not Alberto – may be the character from The Long Halloween the producers recently teased introducing. Still, it should be noted that Sofia went on to become the serial killer dubbed “the Hangman” in Dark Victory, so James Gordon and company will be well advised not to let their guard down around her.

Gotham returns for its fourth season on Thursday, September 28 on Fox.
