Will Hannibal Lecter ever dine again?

Two years on from the moment NBC abruptly pulled the plug on its psychological horror series, and that question continues to keep viewers up at night. Following three seasons of arresting, visually astute television, Hannibal was yanked off the airwaves due to its low ratings, but there have been rumblings of a possible revival; earlier last month, former series showrunner Bryan Fuller (American Gods) even hinted at a potential set-up for a fourth season, which would seemingly be the lovechild of “Inception meets Angel Heart.”

Alas, the song remains the same: Hannibal remains on ice for the time being, given Fuller, who was once attached to Star Trek: Discovery over at CBS, is committing his time to the second season of American Gods. Ditto for Mads Mikkelsen, who held a role in Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One last year and is poised to explore the world of video games through Hideo Kojima’s peculiar PS4 exclusive, Death Stranding.

But make no mistake, even if his slate says otherwise, Mikkelsen is confident that he could find room for a potential Hannibal revival, and spoke a little more about the canned show during London’s recent Comic-Con event.

Chatting to Screen Geek, the actor said:

The news is the same as you know. We talk once in a while – everyone who is involved. I think the people in the wings are working a little on it. But right now, there is still no news. I can tell you this much, all the cast would love to do it again and it’s all up to Bryan [Fuller] and the network.

Having pitched the idea to Mikkelsen, it’s clear that Bryan Fuller wants to bring Hannibal season 4 to fruition. While admirable, it remains to be seen whether either party’s continued interest in the series yields any tangible results, because as things stand, Mr. Lecter is still in search of his next meal.
