Juicy new info about Marvel’s first ever female-led movie, Captain Marvel, just keeps on coming. A few weeks back at SDCC, we got the first details on the film’s plot, including that it will be set in the 1990s, feature the Skrulls as villains and that Samuel L. Jackson will return as Nick Fury. Now, thanks to a new report, we might have just found out some more tidbits that are likely to get comic book readers pretty excited.

According to MCU Exchange, their “most trusted source” has informed them that the original Captain Marvel will make an appearance in the film. In the comics, Carol Danvers – who will be played by Brie Larson in the MCU – took over the mantle from a Kree hero called Mar-Vell. Due to his decades-long history, fans have been hoping to see him turn up in the film in some capacity, so this is a big deal.

Furthermore, Carol’s comic book origin will be replicated in the movie. Just like on the page, the accident involving the Psyche-Magnitron machine that spliced her human DNA with Kree genes will reportedly feature. Apparently, the process will also stop her aging – a handy plot point that will allow Larson to appear in Avengers: Infinity War and not look twenty years older.

The site also claims that the film will allude to Carol’s long career as Ms. Marvel in the comics, and that she’ll likely operate under that moniker for a period in the movie. This will allow the character’s Ms. Marvel outfit to feature at some point, too, which could be a way to include Carol’s two iconic hair styles – her long blonde locks from her early days and her shorter, spiky look from her career as Captain Marvel.

Unfortunately, we shouldn’t get too excited about these details just yet as we don’t have anything to back up the report. However, they do seem like ideas that Marvel would employ in the film, as a way to honour the character’s comic book roots and to keep the fans happy, so there could well be a lot of truth to the story. As always, we’ll be sure to keep you updated if anything else comes to light.

In the meantime, be sure to mark your calendars for March 8th, 2019, as that’s when we’ll finally get to see Captain Marvel.
