The Flying Fox Is Batman’s Shiny New Toy In Justice League, And It’s A Monster

The Flying Fox is Batman's shiny new toy in Justice League, and as you'll see from today's newly-unveiled concept art, it's a monster.

Bruce Wayne isn’t one to do things by halves.

From the lavish Batcave to the souped-up Batwing and everything in between, Gotham City’s Dark Knight has an arsenal that would rival a small army. And in Justice League, Bats will need to call upon his latest and greatest weapons if he’s to fend off the invading Steppenwolf and his nightmarish Parademons.

At the crux of that arsenal is the Flying Fox, a gargantuan command center big enough to house three – count ’em, three – Batmobiles. And that’s just on the first deck. Unveiled today via Entertainment Weekly, the huge aerial vehicle will essentially serve as Justice League HQ come November, and it’ll allow all five members (sorry, Supes) to travel around the world. Think of it as a smaller, more refined version of the MCU’s helicarriers.

Per EW, production designer Patrick Tatopoulos (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) outlined the creative process behind the Flying Fox, and why he envisioned it to be an “avant-garde classic.”

You can put three Batmobiles in the lower part of it. I didn’t want to do a sleek airplane; it needed to feel like an extremely avant-garde classic. With the maneuverability of a jet—but it can actually carry things. The bottom part of the jet is a huge cargo bay, which the Batmobile sits in. The second floor is like a cultural center, with computer terminals. The third story is the cockpit. Whatever floor you are on, you can see [the other] two stories.

As you’ll see from the concept art, Ben Affleck’s Caped Crusader has brought the League together to talk tactics – specifically, how best to handle Steppenwolf before he brings about the ruination of planet Earth.

Tatopoulos continued:

He brings them to the Batcave and lets them in on the central conflict of the story, who the enemy is. There’s a little bit of a Magnificent Seven aspect to it.

Poised to complete DC’s one-two punch for the year after the staggering success of Wonder Woman, Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon’s Justice League will light up the big screen on November 17th. And if you’re curious to know more about the film’s primary antagonist, look no further than these detailed renders.
