Outgoing Captain Marvel Screenwriter Rubbishes Talk Of Page-One Rewrite

In light of Geneva Robertson-Dworet's appointment, Captain Marvel scribe Nicole Perlman has debunked rumors of a page-one rewrite via Twitter.

Captain Marvel is fast beginning to take shape ahead of its planned production start in the fall.

More than two years after they first climbed on board, screenwriters Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) have now passed the Carol Danvers origins story over to the incoming Geneva Roberston-Dworet, whose credits include Tomb Raider and David Ayer’s DC spinoff, Gotham City Sirens. That small change in personnel will presumably allow Roberston-Dworet to shepherd Captain Marvel over the finish line and, crucially, iterate on the screenplay that’s already in place.

In light of Geneva Roberston-Dworet’s appointment on Wednesday, there have been rumblings that Marvel has ordered a page-one rewrite. And with only four months to go until Captain Marvel is due to swoop into production, that rumor was enough to place comic book fans on red alert. But don’t fret; Nicole Perlman took to Twitter to thrust her support behind Roberston-Dworet, stressing that the project “is in excellent hands.” Not only that, but all of Captain Marvel‘s story beats – the 1990s setting, the Skrulls, the involvement (?) of Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury – were all seemingly locked in before Geneva signed along the dotted line.

Essentially, all of the content that was on display during Captain Marvel‘s SDCC showcase was decided long before Marvel drafted in Geneva Roberston-Dworet, so don’t be fooled into thinking that the studio’s first female-fronted superhero movie has suddenly fallen on hard times.

Per Twitter:

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel has been booked in for March 8th, 2019. Next up for the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the launch of Thor: Ragnarok on November 3rd of this year, and it’ll bring about a welcome screen reunion featuring the God of Thunder and Doctor Strange, after Thor was seen paying a visit to the famous Sanctum Sanctorum in Ragnarok‘s recent Japanese promo.
