The Punisher Returns In First Teaser Trailer For Upcoming Spinoff

Perhaps in fear that it could overshadow the release of The Defenders, Marvel and Netflix have been awfully quiet about their upcoming Punisher spinoff starring Jon Bernthal. But now that the former show is available on the streaming service – and receiving fairly positive reviews – it looks like Frank Castle is finally ready to take the spotlight.

That’s because the very first teaser trailer for the upcoming series has been released today, promising a dark and violent ride to come. It doesn’t show us a whole lot, given that it’s just a teaser, but in it, we get a glimpse of Frank’s troubled past and the demons that continue to haunt him today. There’s nothing in terms of plot or even a look at any of the supporting characters, but this promo gets the job done and re-introduces the anti-hero in the perfect way.

Thankfully, it seems like the show will really be fleshing out Frank’s backstory – which Daredevil couldn’t do, obviously – and from the footage we see here, it looks like they’ve got the tone of both the character and the series as a whole just right. Not to mention that Bernthal is absolutely perfect in the role. Again, this teaser isn’t much, but what’s provided is certainly exciting and with The Defenders now out of the way, we fully expect Marvel to kick off the marketing campaign for The Punisher in earnest.

Jon Bernthal’s gun-toting vigilante was first introduced via the second season of Daredevil, when Matt Murdock’s Man Without Fear went up against The Hand. Building on their nervy friendship from there, we know that Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page will appear alongside Bernthal when The Punisher debuts. As will Ben Barnes (Billy Russo), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Micro), Amber Rose Revah (Dinah Madani), Michael Nathanson (Sam Stein), and more

Though the studio is yet to announce an official release date, all signs currently point toward a mid-November premiere. As always, watch this space for more.
