Joker And Harley Quinn Movie Nabs Crazy, Stupid, Love Filmmakers

The past day-and-a-half has certainly been one crazy ride, now hasn't it? First, we found out that not only is the Joker getting a solo origin movie that doesn't take place within the DC Extended Universe, but then we also learned that despite Jared Leto not appearing in that particular film, he's still expected to reprise his role as the Ace of Knaves in Suicide Squad 2 and Gotham City Sirens.

Now, here’s where it gets even more interesting.

Do you remember when DC head honcho Geoff Johns let slip that Joker would be co-headlining a movie with Harley Quinn at San Diego Comic-Con last month? Well, being a huge fan of both characters, I sure as shootin’ haven’t. And with all the hoopla going around yesterday, I was wondering what the state of this particular project was.

As it turns out, Warner Bros. are reportedly in final talks with Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, directors and executive producers of the NBC drama This Is Us, whom you may also know from their prior work on the 2011 flick, Crazy, Stupid, Love. If all goes according to plan, they’ll write and direct Joker and Harley’s as-yet-untitled picture that’ll arrive after Suicide Squad 2 hits theaters, thus strengthening theories that both characters will play a part in Task Force X’s next outing.

Right now, this is being described as a “criminal love story,” but seeing as how it was billed as a versus-style movie at SDCC, we could very well witness the title characters having a violent falling out in the third act. After all, they’re now estranged in the comics, so it makes sense that the studio ultimately let each of them blossom on their own at some point.

And even though I’m thrilled to hear that Harley Quinn will be showing up soon in some capacity, I, for one, would really like some official word regarding Gotham City Sirens – and fast. Naturally, Catwoman and Poison Ivy also deserve a place in the DCEU. Let’s just hope the folks at WB and DC feel the same.
