Only six episodes remain of HBO’s Game of Thrones and in truth, that’s enough to leave fans on edge.
Now that the dust is beginning to settle from Sunday’s show-stopping finale, “The Dragon and the Wolf,” the Internet has been awash with weird and wonderful fan theories ranging from a potential connection between Bran Stark and the Night King, along with the incestuous relationship between Jon Snow (real name: Aegon Targaryen) and Daenerys and, crucially, what it means for the Seven Kingdoms.
But beyond Game of Thrones season 8, we understand HBO is plotting a prequel series based on the world created by George R.R. Martin. Yes, the Song of Ice and Fire must go on, and already the network has solicited story pitches from such talented screenwriters as Max Borenstein (Godzilla: King of the Monsters), Jane Goldman (Kingsman: The Golden Circle), Brian Helgeland and Carly Wray. Spoilers: neither Dunk and Egg nor Robert’s Rebellion have been earmarked for an adaptation.
However that may be, in order to gauge the interest of the show’s leading players, ShortList quizzed Pilou Asbæk (Euron Greyjoy), John Bradley-West (Samwell Tarly), Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm), Rory McCann (The Hound) and Neil Portman (Podrick Payne) about what they’d like to see from the inevitable successor series, and here’s what they had to say:
Now that Game of Thrones‘ seventh, penultimate season has come to an end, all eyes are beginning to turn toward the show’s last hurrah. Filming isn’t expected to get underway until October, and though season 8 is only comprised of six episodes in total, it’s unlikely we’ll be revisiting Westeros anytime before the summer of 2019.
