Prepare to swear allegiance to the Cult of Chucky.
Four weeks out from release, Universal Pictures has conjured up a whole host of creepy stills – stills in which the Devil Doll checks into an asylum, much to the dismay of those haunted patients desperate for some sense of normalcy. But Chucky has other ideas in mind.
Building off the nightmarish events that transpired in Curse of Chucky, Don Mancini’s direct-to-video horror sequel primarily takes place in a mental hospital, where Nica (Fiona Dourif) is being nursed along the road to recovery. Also starring Summer H. Howell, Alex Vincent and Jennifer Tilly, who’s now considered to be a cornerstone of the Child’s Play franchise, Cult of Chucky is tailor-made for long-time supporters of the Devil Doll, but it’ll be fascinating to gauge how the film fares with lapsed fans and the moviegoing masses.

Story-wise, this is very much Don Mancini’s Chucky gig, who directs from his own script. A long-time pillar of the Child’s Play franchise, there is perhaps no one better equipped to deliver the seventh instalment in this cult horror series, and in light of today’s haunting media dump, October 3rd can’t come soon enough.
Here’s a rundown of the story:
Confined to an asylum for the criminally insane for the past four years, Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif) is erroneously convinced that she, not Chucky, murdered her entire family. But when her psychiatrist introduces a new therapeutic “tool” to facilitate his patients’ group sessions — an all-too-familiar “Good Guy” doll with an innocently smiling face — a string of grisly deaths begins to plague the asylum, and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn’t crazy after all. Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent), Chucky’s now-grown-up nemesis from the original Child’s Play, races to Nica’s aid. But to save her he’ll have to get past Tiffany (Oscar-nominee Jennifer Tilly), Chucky’s long-ago bride, who will do anything, no matter how deadly or depraved, to help her beloved devil doll.
Cult of Chucky makes a beeline for Blu-ray and DVD on October 3rd, and it’ll seemingly open up a “world of possibilities” for future instalments. If you’re wanting to go all-in on the Child’s Play experience this Halloween, you’ll be pleased to hear that a comprehensive 7-movie collection will be available day and date with Don Mancini’s long-brewing horror sequel.
