Has Thandie Newton’s Han Solo Role Been Revealed?

Though plot details remain under lock and key, a new photo may have accidentally revealed Thandie Newton's role in the Han Solo spinoff.

Back in June, production on Disney and Lucasfilm’s Han Solo spinoff ground to a halt after the abrupt firing of erstwhile directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

It’s an announcement that not only sent shockwaves through the Star Wars community, but also the industry itself, and the entire ordeal had echoes of those scathing rumors that plagued Rogue One: A Star Wars Story mid-way through filming. Bringing an end to the drama almost as quickly as it began, Disney then appointed the Oscar-winning Ron Howard in place of Lord and Miller and ever since, he’s been hard at work putting the finishing touches on the pic.

Though for all his social media updates, and there have been quite a lot, we still don’t really know anything at all about the plot. Nor do we know much about who anyone’s playing in the film – aside from Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover, of course. That doesn’t change today, unfortunately, but a new set photo might just reveal some interesting details about Thandie Newton’s character.

As you can see in the image below, the actress is wearing a patch on her coat which appears to be an Imperial insignia. Not only that, but the entire outfit looks quite similar to what you’d see on an Imperial naval officer. Just take a look at the pics in the gallery and you’ll see what we mean.

Interesting, right? Could Thandie Newton end up being one of the film’s antagonists? It’s certainly possible, but it’s still too early to say for sure. What we can tell you, though, is that the actress will star alongside Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Donald Glover and, crucially, not Michael K. Williams, whose character has seemingly been replaced by Avengers star Paul Bettany, when Han Solo blasts into theatres on May 25th, 2018.

One year later, J.J. Abrams and his team will bring about the end of Disney’s rebooted Star Wars trilogy with Episode IX, though with tentative plans in places for new movies all the way up until 2022, this is a franchise that shows no sign of slowing down – not now, and perhaps not ever.
