Seeing as every movie and TV show produced by Marvel Studios takes place in the same shared universe – the Marvel Cinematic Universe, to be exact – it’s a constant source of disappointment to fans that any chance of a crossover between the heroes of the silver and small screens has been repeatedly ruled out. This could have changed with Inhumans, though. As the property was originally set to be a movie before being transferred to TV, it was theoretically possible that it would be the one to bridge the gap.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like there’s much hope of that happening anymore. While chatting with ComicBook.com, Inhumans star Sonya Balmores – who plays Auran on the show – was asked about the idea of a crossover with the films. She quickly skirted that issue, but did suggest that the series could cross paths with its fellow ABC show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
“I don’t know anything about that but, I mean, Agents of SHIELD is gonna be right after us, so yeah. We’ve got Inhumans, they’ve got NuHumans, I don’t see that not being a possibility.”
For those who haven’t been paying attention to the last few seasons of AoS, the concept of Inhumans was first introduced into the MCU back in S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s second season. Unlike the Inhuman Royal Family, however, these Inhumans don’t know of the full history of their people – leading them to be dubbed ‘NuHumans.’
While it would be perfectly possible within the narrative for these two shows to crossover, behind the scenes issues might prevent such a thing from happening. It’s previously been reported that ABC and Marvel are currently butting heads over Inhumans‘ disappointing critical reception and ABC wish to cancel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. It’s conceivable, then, that neither show could even be on the air next year.
For now, though, Inhumans is broadcasting its eight-episode debut season to decent ratings every Friday.
