Game Of Thrones’ Final Script Brought Kit Harington To Tears

While appearing on The One Show, Kit Harington admitted that HBO's final script for Game of Thrones reduced him to tears.

With HBO now in the process of capturing Game of Thrones‘ swan song – filming commenced in Belfast earlier this month – Kit Harington and the show’s power players recently conducted a table-read for the series finale, and it’s one that reduced the 30-year-old actor to tears.

Speaking on The One Show (via Metro), Harington got a little misty-eyed when recalling HBO’s read-through, which mapped out the show’s ending and, presumably, who winds up on the Iron Throne when all is said and done. To his credit, Kit Harington believes Game of Thrones is wrapping up at just the right time, lest HBO’s fantasy flagship overstay its welcome, and coming off the gripping seventh season, the actor touched base on the emotional impact of season 8’s finale.

No spoilers here, of course, as Kit Harington is likely bound to all sorts of non-disclosure agreements. Because after the multiple leaks that plagued season 7, it’s clear that HBO has since tightened security.

On the topic of Thrones‘ finale, though, here’s what the actor had to share:

We had the read-through last week, in fact, so I know everything now. But I cried at the end. You have to remember that after eight years of it, no one really cares about it more than us. It’s been an institution longer than any other institution I’ve been in. School, drama school, anything. I get a bit weepy thinking about it. It’s going to be a strange year saying goodbye to everyone and having last scenes with this person and that person. Not only you’re attached to it, loads of people around the world are attached to it.

With the cameras now rolling, Game of Thrones is on course to return mid-way through 2019. If it’s more Harington you’re after, though, the actor is now starring in Gunpowder, a new BBC series based on the infamous Gunpowder Plot of 1605.
