New Supergirl Featurette Takes Us To Mars

Even though it takes place in a dimension separate from where most characters in the Arrowverse live, Supergirl has done quite the fine job of expanding its supporting cast and embracing DC's rich pantheon of heroes. One example of this would have to be that of J'onn J'onzz/the Martian Manhunter, who actually happens to be my favorite character on the show.

Even though it takes place in a dimension separate from where most characters in the Arrowverse live, Supergirl has done quite the fine job of expanding its supporting cast and embracing DC’s rich pantheon of heroes. One example of this would have to be that of J’onn J’onzz/the Martian Manhunter, who actually happens to be my favorite character on the show.

To date, he’s played a critical role, being both the director of the D.E.O. and a mentor to Kara Zor-El. And thankfully, the creative minds behind the series have yet to hold back when it comes to exploring his Martian origins. In fact, we’ve seen the tragic loss of his family, unwelcome visits from White Martians, and he’s also found a love interest of sorts in M’gann M’orzz.

So, you could imagine my delight upon learning that we won’t be wasting much time this season before further exploring J’onn’s journey. As it turns out, both he and Kara will be venturing to the Red Planet in this week’s episode, “Far from the Tree,” where they’ll not only meet up with M’gann, but also J’onn’s father! Needless to say, I’ll be glued to my seat for this one.

In addition to that, the featurette at the top informs us that the “Sanvers” relationship will also share the focus of said episode. According to executive producers Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner, Alex will get to meet Maggie Sawyer’s father, who’s being played by Carlos Bernard. And while we’re hoping for the best for the lovebirds, it’s hard to ignore the fact that Floriana Lima is no longer a series regular, so we can’t rule out a trip to Splitsville before long.

Supergirl airs on Monday nights on The CW.
