A group of tourists staying at an Airbnb in Barcelona, Spain, apparently made a startling discovery during their trip. Their host was seen hiding inside a wardrobe in the rental property. The moment was captured on video and posted to TikTok by creator Ciara (@cciarajones) and has since gone viral with more than 13.8 million views and over 1.9 million likes.
In the clip, on-screen text reads: “When you hear a weird noise in the wardrobe and find your Airbnb host hiding in there.” One of the male guests is shown carefully opening a white, glass-paned wardrobe door, while a female guest reacts with repeated exclamations of “No! Oh no! Oh no!” As the door opens wider, a man, believed to be the host, is revealed sitting inside, looking down at his phone.
The female guest can be heard saying, “What? No! No! Don’t do that!” and “I thought we were having a nice day-” The male guest responds, “We are Björns.” The host remains silent and continues scrolling throughout.
The follow-up video revealed the host had nowhere else to stay and even ironed the guests’ clothes
A follow-up video, posted by the same account, provided more context about what happened. According to the video, the group had left the property and returned later with more friends. One of the male guests, narrating the video, said they noticed something unusual about a white double door with glass panels, it appeared to have a lock that had not been there before they left. “I swear on my life that weren’t there when we left.”
When another guest opened the door, they found the host inside a small room behind it. “Yo, what the f-? Are you-” one guest exclaimed, according to the clip. The narrator then turned the camera to himself and said, “Lads, what the f-? Me and Lem have rented out this gaff, we’ve got this f-ing n- of a host.”
According to the follow-up video, the host appeared just as shocked as the guests when discovered. The clip shows a phone screen displaying the translated message: “I didn’t think you would find me,” which the narrator said was what the host communicated to them.
On-screen text in the follow-up video states that after the guests determined the host appeared to be harmless, they set some ground rules with him. A text message shown in the video, sent at 11:17 am and attributed to one of the female guests, read: “Either in another room or somewhere else. I won’t be staying in the storage room, so don’t worry about that. Just please don’t disturb the guests so that everything stays calm and peaceful.”
The on-screen text also claimed the group “made friends with him and he even ironed their clothes for them.” Toward the end of the video, the narrator is shown using a translation app to communicate with the host, with a robotic voice conveying messages including: “I am now going to have a shower. I do not want any surprises from you when I am washing my b– s—-” and “I recommend you turn off your timer, turn off the camera.”
The original video drew widespread reactions in the comments section. One user wrote, “This is actually terrifying,” while another suggested, “I think he doesn’t have any place to go and rent his own place to make money.” A third commented, “I love how he nonchalant keeps scrolling his phone.”
Others shared their own concerns about renting properties, with one person writing, “This is why I never want to rent an Airbnb I’ve heard too many Airbnb horror stories. I’d be so paranoid there’s secret cameras and stuff.” In another case, a woman gave her Airbnb host 4 stars and later received a revenge review.
One commenter also claimed a similar experience, writing, “Ours was living in the attic and we found out cause he would come down at 3am to kitchen.” A similar story involved a South Carolina family whose Florida Airbnb experience just kept getting worse.
