Thor: Ragnarok Post-Credits Scenes Revealed

It just wouldn’t be an MCU movie if it didn’t have scenes hidden within the end credits, would it? The usual number to expect is two, although entries like Avengers: Age of Ultron has settled for one while Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 broke the mold and included a whopping five post-credits scenes. As has already been revealed, though, Thor: Ragnarok sports the traditional two. Now that the much-anticipated threequel has arrived in the UK, we know just what the two extra scenes to be found at the end of the movie entail. You've been warned... Still with us? Good. So, do Thor: Ragnarok’s post-credits scenes tease any major developments to come in future movies? Or do they just offer some welcome extra laughs? Well, as is becoming the norm, it’s actualy a bit of both… Scene 1: Asgardians Under Attack The mid-credits scene directly follows on from the end of the movie, with Thor and Loki aboard the Asgardian refugee ship after the destruction of their homeworld. The brothers discuss whether Thor's plan to take their people to Earth is a good one - considering Loki's previous attempts to conquer the planet. Thor remains positive about the whole thing, though, stating that he thinks "everything is going to work out just fine." What he doesn't know, however, is that a humongous space vessel - that dwarfs the already sizeable refugee ship - is lurking behind them. No prizes for guessing who's hiding inside this vessel. Yes, though the scene itself leaves things ambiguous, this has to be Thanos' mothership. Exactly what he's going to do with the Asgardians we're not sure, but we do know that Thor will get separated from his people. How? The SDCC trailer for Avengers: Infinity War saw the God of Thunder land on the windscreen of the Milano, bringing him face to face with the Guardians of the Galaxy. It's also worth discussing how Thanos knew where to find the Asgardians. The obvious answer is that Loki is secretly in league with him. The God of Mischief gets a modicum of redemption in Ragnarok, as he decides to stay with Thor on the refugee ship, but this could all be part of a bigger ploy to fool his brother out of the throne once again. Alternatively, Loki is seen showing an interest in the Tesseract, dwelling in the Asgardian vaults, during the film's finale, suggesting he's pinched it. Maybe Thanos has detected the Infinity Stone on board the ship and has come to collect it? After all, he did say he was going to do it himself back in Age of Ultron, so it's about time he actually took some initiative. Either way, the message of this post-credits scene is clear: after years of build-up, Thanos the Mad Titan is finally about to come a-knocking. Scene 2: The Grandmaster Faces His Subjects As seems to be the new status quo for MCU post-credits scenes - after Stan Lee trying to hitch a ride with the Watchers in Guardians Vol. 2 and Captain America's fourth-wall breaking cameo in Spider-Man: Homecoming - the final sequence of Thor: Ragnarok is an extra bit of comedy to leave the audience smiling. Either that, or Marvel is deliberately trolling the fans who wait the whole ten minutes until the end of the credits. The scene jumps back to Sakaar, catching up with the Grandmaster after the revolution that ousted him from power earlier in the movie. We'll let the one and only Jeff Goldblum take it from here, as he explained what the second post-credits sequence contains while chatting with Radio Times: “If you stay ‘til the very end, the end credits, you see me do a bit of improvised, Taika Waititi-inspired and directed, bit of improvisation. It looks like my ship has gone down, and I’m surrounded by the rebels. And it’s me against all of them – but I’m the Grandmaster. I’m immortal. You can’t kill me, you can’t even hurt me. I can go like this – mmmmmmmm – and do away with them, and then I can resurrect them if I want. So whatever I’m going on about is just for my own amusement.” It's a fun little scene and an extra chance to see Goldblum roll with some hilarious improv. It doesn't exactly offer many clues to the future, though, apart from leaving us with the question of whether we'll see the Grandmaster again. While we haven't heard anything about a further appearance for the character, we do learn in Ragnarok that he's thousands of years old, plus it's been mentioned before that he's the brother of the Collector, so there is more to explore with the Grandmaster if Goldblum fancies coming back.
