The Force is strong in this new artwork for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
First spotted by Star Wars Stuff (with a tip of the hat to Screen Rant), below you’ll find two pieces of promo art dedicated to Rian Johnson’s blockbuster, and in keeping with the age-old battle between the dark side and the light, each piece spotlights both sides of the Force.
On the one hand, we have Rey, Daisy Ridley’s Jakku orphan (?) who finally made contact with the wayward Luke Skywalker during the final moments of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. One shaky helicopter shot later, and with Luke’s lightsaber back in the hands hand of its rightful owner, we arrive at the beginning of The Last Jedi. From what we understand, Lucasfilm’s dark second chapter picks up right where The Force Awakens left off, which tells us that the December sequel will waste no time in reintroducing the all-wise, all-powerful Luke Skywalker.
Indeed, Mark Hamill’s Jedi Master is featured in the gallery below, which also heralds new looks at the Millennium Falcon, Artoo and Ahch-To’s furry wildlife (read: the porgs). On the other end of the moral spectrum, you’ll also see Captain Phasma, General Hux and a glowering Kylo Ren sans helmet which, if nothing else, gives us another peek at that gruesome facial scar.
It’s his one true souvenir from that inspired duel with Rey on Starkiller Base, and given Ren’s temperament, we’re inclined to believe that that scar will serve as a constant reminder of his embarrassing failure, much to the bemusement of Snoke. Incidentally, the First Order’s supreme leader is nowhere to be found in this artwork, which is either Lucasfilm’s way of retaining some semblance of mystery around The Last Jedi, or because Snoke is just too damn ugly to be featured in the film’s promotional campaign.
On December 15th, Star Wars: The Last Jedi will light up theaters across the globe. And just think; there’s only another six months to wait until the next Star Wars blockbuster rolls off Disney’s production line, as Solo: A Star Wars Story is slated for May 25th, 2018.
