Exclusive Preview: Not All Is What It Seems In Scooby Apocalypse #19

So far, it’s been a pretty good week for those of you who enjoy both Scooby-Doo and DC Comics. Just days ago, we learned that our favorite Great Dane will soon take part in an animated crossover film with a freshly resurrected Batman: The Brave and the Bold and, today, we’re proud to bring you this exclusive first look inside the next issue of Scooby Apocalypse.

In my view, I think this particular series has flourished and seen longevity beyond that of the other recent Hanna-Barbera revivals because it’s been able to appeal to multiple areas of fandom. Sure, Apocalypse may be a radical reimagining of the cartoon we grew up loving, but the camaraderie of the gang and many of the intrinsic aspects remain. Okay, the cast often fights, but that’s to be expected in extreme situations.

Additionally, there’s much for horror fans to enjoy as well. Even though it’s not a zombie-fest per se, many parallels could be drawn between this and Resident Evil. And as a fan of both franchises, this macabre marriage had me sold from the start.

As you may recall, last month’s issue saw the gang find refuge in a town that is seemingly untouched by the nanite plague. And though the tale continues there this month, the preview pages seen above succeed in furthering our suspicions about this place. If The Walking Dead has taught us anything, it’s that these quaint little hamlets aren’t always what they appear.

Tensions begin to rise when the Scooby gang takes refuge in a seemingly safe town. As the gang tries to hold together, a looming new threat completely unlike the monsters they’ve faced before reveals itself. The gang now faces being torn apart by two enemies: the monsters…and themselves. Meanwhile, Secret Squirrel must face the consequences of his disastrous actions.

Scooby Apocalypse #19 arrives in comic shops next Wednesday, November 8.
