Doom Patrol Teased For Upcoming Titans Series

Having been a beloved comic book property for decades before becoming a darling among animation lovers beginning in 2003, one could say that the Teen Titans have been overdue for a live action adaptation for quite some time. Well, actually, they were set to headline their own movie with a theatrical release projected for 2010, but that endeavor was one of many unfortunately killed by the writers’ strike.

Thankfully, things have turned around as of late, with a live action Titans series slated to debut sometime in 2018 via a new digital streaming service that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are cooking up. Already, casting has been well underway, with Teagan CroftAnna Diop and Brenton Thwaites signing up for the roles of Raven, Starfire and Dick Grayson, respectively.

So, even though we expect the creative minds behind the series to adhere to the source material, we do know that some characters whom we don’t normally associate with the team will be popping up, namely Hawk and Dove, set to be played by Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly.

Not only that, but another whopper of a surprise may be in store for us. Thanks to a Twitter exchange involving Ryan Potter, who’ll be playing Beast Boy, and DC Entertainment president Geoff Johns, it looks like the Doom Patrol is the latest cat to be let out of the proverbial bag.

For those unfamiliar with the Doom Patrol, they happen to be one of DC’s oldest super teams. Made up of a cadre of powered misfits, it’s often been argued that they served as inspiration for Marvel’s X-Men, despite never having enjoyed the same mainstream exposure. Regardless, that hasn’t stopped the latest Doom Patrol ongoing comic from emerging as the flagship book for the Young Animal initiative, or from garnering much critical acclaim.

As always, we’ll keep you posted when it comes to all breaking news related to Titans – even if that means certain characters will or will not be joining them – so be sure to stay tuned.
