Even though Greg Berlanti and company have crafted quite the interconnected DC Universe over on The CW, there are still some big names that have yet to put in appearances. And as awesome as those fall crossovers tend to be, it’s hard to imagine a DC Universe existing without certain characters – like Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, for instance.
Now, a lot of this has to do with red tape that’s long separated WB’s film and television divisions. Heck, we remember a time when an animated series, The Batman, couldn’t make use of characters like Scarecrow, Two-Face and Ra’s al Ghul because studio executives thought viewers wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between them and those appearing in Christopher Nolan’s movies!
But, in recent years, we’ve seen a dramatic shift that’s allowed for fans’ dreams to come true. Just last season, Superman himself (played by Tyler Hoechlin) debuted on Supergirl, with Arrow name-dropping Bruce Wayne this year. And in an unexpected completion of the Trinity, Legends of Tomorrow hit us with a whopper of a reveal in last night’s episode.
If you missed the cleverly titled “Helen Hunt,” we’ll tell you what happened in a nutshell.
Basically, the latest anachronism the Waverider crew had to deal with came in the form of none other than Helen of Troy, who was displaced in 1937 Hollywood. In the end, it was decreed that she be returned to her native time period – but that would mean condemning her to a life of solitude and oppression.
Realizing this, Zari – who hails from a dystopic future – did the heroic thing when she “hacked history.” In other words, she found a loophole because Helen was said to have disappeared during wartime. Thus, she simply dropped her off in another place that happened to be an island home to warrior women.
Truth be told, I thought that was going to be just a fun little nod, but I was quite thrilled when the word “Themyscira” appeared onscreen. Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean Wonder Woman will show up anytime soon, but we at least know that she does indeed exist in the Arrowverse, which is definitely a win.
