New Trailer For The Crown Teases Royal Romance For Margaret

Last week brought us the first trailer for season 2 of Netflix's The Crown. The streaming service's Royal family drama was a hit when it debuted in 2016 and the initial teaser promised more of the same to come, as Queen Elizabeth (Claire Foy) and Prince Phillip's (Matt Smith) marriage is tested even further by the all-important duties of ruling the country.

Last week brought us the first trailer for season 2 of Netflix’s The Crown. The streaming service’s Royal family drama was a hit when it debuted in 2016 and the initial teaser promised more of the same to come, as Queen Elizabeth (Claire Foy) and Prince Phillip’s (Matt Smith) marriage is tested even further by the all-important duties of ruling the country.

In this newly released promo that you’ll see above, the focus is shifted away from the central couple and onto Elizabeth’s wayward sister, Princess Margaret (Vanessa Kirby). At the end of season 1, the Queen decided to forbid Margaret from marrying her fiancee Peter Townsend, due to the national scandal it was feared it would cause. Naturally, the trailer proves that the sisters’ relationship has become strained ever since, with Margaret indulging in heavy drinking and partying.

However, the teaser reveals that it doesn’t take long for Margaret to find herself a new beau in Anthony Armstrong-Jones (Watchmen‘s Matthew Goode). Unfortunately for the Queen, he’s just a controversial a match as the last one, as Jones is a modernist photographer who wants to capture the Royal family in a bold new way for the 1960s.

As has been known for a while, season 2 will be the last to star Foy and Smith as Elizabeth and Phillip (and presumably Kirby as Margaret, as well). To account for the jump forward through the Queen’s life, season 3 will see the lead roles recast with older actors.

We recently learned that Foy would be replaced with Murder on the Orient Express‘ Olivia Colman, while the next Phillip has yet to be found – though Colman has said she hopes it might be her former Broadchurch co-star David Tennant. Which would no doubt delight Doctor Who fans.

Be sure to catch The Crown season 2 when it hits Netflix on December 8th.
