The Walking Dead: Will Negan’s Past Filter Into The Planned Crossover?

Beyond AMC’s core flagship, which is fast approaching its extended mid-season finale, The Walking Dead community has trained its crosshairs on two sizeable developments: the planned Walking Dead/Fear The Walking Dead crossover, and the promise that Scott Gimple and Co. will delve deep into Negan’s past.

But if Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick is to be believed, one may be folded into another. As the dust settles from Sunday’s “The Big Scary U,” which largely placed the focus on Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s big bad, Hardwick indulged in a little speculation to draw a parallel between Negan and Madison Clark, the former high school guidance counselor and lead protagonist of Fear.

Essentially, this theory supposes that Negan and Clark worked at the same high school, long before the world went to hell in a handcart. In fact, during Sunday’s episode of The Walking Dead, Negan told a shocked Gabriel that he actually worked with kids in his pre-apocalyptic shindig, fueling rumors that he’s already crossed paths with Madison before.

There is some thought that Madison from Fear the Walking Dead was a counselor. Negan worked with kids. Does this mean that they are somehow tied?

Don’t get too excited, though; the Talking Dead audience was admittedly skeptical about Hardwick’s theory, so treat this speculative morsel as just that.

As things stand, Fear The Walking Dead recently wrapped its third season, all the while drafting in some new blood – namely showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg – in anticipation of season 4. The Walking Dead, on the other hand, is still in the midst of its historic eighth season, which will continue this Sunday with the premiere of “The King, the Widow, and Rick.”
