A woman named Mariah, who posts on TikTok as @mariahrellataylor said she went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner and then left after looking toward the kitchen. She shared a video framed with on-screen text that read, “POV: You went to Texas roadhouse and walked right back out.” In the caption, she wrote, “Then later we got on tiktok and seen what they’ve been doing but we left because it was just dirty in there in general and OVERLLLLY packed.”
Her video has gained 4.4 million views, 86,800 likes, and over 2,700 comments on TikTok. In the clip, she narrated from off-screen while the camera showed what appeared to be a busy kitchen or food preparation area. Two workers stood behind a counter. A woman with dark hair tied back wore blue gloves and handled food items, and a man in a black cap worked nearby.
Various food containers, trays, and what appeared to be bread or rolls sat scattered across the counter. A digital screen displaying orders was visible in the background.
Viewers offer mixed takes after Texas Roadhouse kitchen footage spreads on TikTok
Mariahrellataylor asked in the video, “What do you feel about that? I don’t know what that is. I don’t, what, what is that? What they doing?” Her comments suggested she was unsure about the activity she was watching.
The camera then shifted away for a moment, showing blurry figures in a dimly lit area and a close-up of an arm before returning to the kitchen. She then said, “At this point, maybe order some rolls and go. Oh!”
Some commenters focused on items visible in the kitchen footage. One person described a grease tray and said, “grease tray. it’s cardboard and they throw them away after use.” Another commenter identified a product they said is common in restaurants. They wrote, “the name is savaday.. is normal used in restaurant’s for absorbing the grease or oil and holding hot food.”
Other viewers pointed to kitchen conditions they said are typical. One commenter wrote, “If there is food there r creatures. Even in ur home. U just dont see them. And if it’s packed that’s because ppl like the food and it will be fresh.” Mariahrellataylor replied, “I like this concept.” For Texas Roadhouse, the complaints don’t stop at kitchen cleanliness, as servers have also faced accusations of spitting in food.
A person who said they had worked at the chain for four years described a recurring complaint. They wrote, “I’ve worked there for four years. I can’t count how many times we got food sent back because of Hair.”
Some commenters said the footage did not look unusual. One person wrote, “If only you could see how any restaurant kitchen is run. There is absolutely nothing alarming about this. There is far worse in some places you don’t see. It actually looks like a well organized kitchen.”
Other replies questioned the reason for posting the video. One commenter wrote, “Don’t understand the purpose of the video..you still went there after all the speculation. Smh Click Bait…” Another person wrote, “Did we not hear about the face book group chat thing?…”
A further commenter said problems often come from staff rather than owners. They wrote, “It’s hardly ever the owners. Owners wanna make money. It be the workers doing the BS to people’s food and the discrimination.” Other diners at the chain have also raised issues, as a Texas couple once demanded answers over a roll.
