Launching a brand new network TV show not based on an existing property is a difficult prospect at the best of times, but when the star of the series has just been accused of multiple acts of sexual assault, it’s probably time to throw in the towel. And that’s exactly what CBS has done with new Jeremy Piven vehicle Wisdom of the Crowd, which is about a Silicon Tech valley genius who uses crowdsourcing to solve crimes (apparently, it’s terrible).
Cancelling the show after just 13 episodes follows weeks of accusations by women who claim Piven held them down and rubbed his genitals on them, non-consensually groped them and more. One of his victims, Longmire actress Cassidy Freeman, summed up the current mood towards the former Entourage star in an Instagram post that reads as follows:
“I know what you did and attempted to do to me when I was far too young. THAT I know. And you know it too. Unless there were so many of us, that you can’t remember. Predatory behavior is a chronic way for you to seek power. Do you feel powerful? With your lawyers and your networks and your die hard man-fans who call your victims bimbos? Or do you know, in your rotten gut, that you will have to lie for the rest of your life? I hope from now on, you keep it in your pants and you never get to do it again.”
I think that says it all, really. Piven offered to and subsequently took a polygraph test in an effort to prove his innocence, but those are a load of unscientific rubbish. He may as well have chucked some chicken entrails in a bowl and said the patterns they form prove he could never have rubbed his gross dick all over a terrified woman.
The remaining episodes of Wisdom of the Crowd will run their course Sundays at 8/7c on CBS, and then it’ll disappear down the memory hole, presumably never to be seen again. And as for Jeremy Piven? Well, we imagine he’s going to have a tough time finding work moving forward.
