Stunning Fan Art Renders American Gods Star Ricky Whittle As The New Green Lantern

Ricky Whittle as the new Green Lantern? BossLogic certainly thinks the American Gods breakout would make a fine Lantern for a future DCEU movie.

The list of actors who have allegedly come into contention for Green Lantern Corps is as long as it is tantalizing.

That’s because Warner Bros. is presumably still casting the net in search of their Hal Jordan/John Stewart combo, and to date, Jake Gyllenhaal (The Batman?), Armie Hammer, Bradley Cooper, Joel McHale, Chris Pine, Common, Tyrese Gibson, Matthew McConau–and, well, you get the idea.

Point is, Warner’s casting process for Green Lantern Corps is ongoing, and thanks to screenwriter Michael Green, Ricky Whittle of American Gods fame has now been tossed into the proverbial hat. This past weekend, Green, who was credited as the writer of 2011’s botched Green Lantern movie alongside Marc Guggenheim and Greg Berlanti, voiced his support of Whittle, stating:

I’ll probably get angry texts if I don’t say what’s in my heart which is that Ricky Whittle would make a fantastic John Stewart.

And BossLogic has wasted no time to strike while the iron is still piping hot. Following up on his renderings for Captain Marvel and The Walking Dead, the esteemed concept artist has produced a rather striking piece that imagines Whittle in the role of John Stewart. And you can’t say he doesn’t look the part.

Don’t get too excited, though; with the exception of Aquaman and Wonder Woman 2, Green Lantern Corps is one of many DCEU movies incubating in the early stages of development, so it’ll likely be some time yet before we catch wind of an official announcement.

When that time comes, though, Michael Green would like to take another crack at the DC universe.

“I feel like my experience on Green Lantern is very much unfinished and there are stories to tell there,” he said. “That was not a film that turned out the way we’d hoped going in and I think there is an appetite for a better version of that.”

A pair of Lanterns did show up in Justice League, so we’re inclined to believe that Warner has big plans for Green Lantern Corps and beyond. It’ll seemingly be with us in 2020, providing the stars align.
