The Flash Showrunner Fired Following Sexual Harrassment Investigation

Earlier this month came the shocking news that Arrowverse exec producer Andrew Kreisberg had been suspended after 19 women and men had come forward to accuse him of sexual harassment. It was noted at the time that a full investigation would be launched to ascertain the veracity of the claims with a final decision to be made on Kreisberg’s future with these shows once it was complete.

Now, that investigation is done and The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Warner Bros. has made the call to remove Kreisberg from his role as showrunner for The Flash and Supergirl with immediate effect. The studio released an official statement on the matter, which also clarified how the shows would move forward:

“After a thorough investigation, Warner Bros. Television Group has terminated Andrew Kreisberg’s employment, effective immediately. Greg Berlanti will assume additional responsibilities on both “The Flash,” where he will work closely with executive producer/co-showrunner Todd Helbing, and “Supergirl,” where he will work closely with executive producers/co-showrunners Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller. We remain committed to providing a safe working environment for our employees and everyone involved in our productions.”

Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, whose Berlanti Productions produces the shows with Warner Bros., had this to add:

“Warner Bros. Television Group recently concluded its investigation into the allegations against Andrew Kreisberg. We encouraged and supported this investigation, we believe and support the individuals who came forward, and we agree with the studio’s decision. Nothing is more important to us than the safety and well-being of all our colleagues — coworkers, crew and staff alike.”

We’re sure that all DC TV fans will agree that WB have made the right decision here. The Arrowverse, most notably Supergirl, have always supported female empowerment and equality on screen, so to have any sort of sexual harassment going on behind the scenes is obviously unacceptable.

As for where these shows will go next, the official statement makes clear that there are several other talented writers on hand to step up and fill Kreisberg’s place. In particular, it’s exciting to hear that Greg Berlanti is taking a more active role in production again, seeing as these four series were his babies to start with.
