With Avengers: Infinity War now just six months away, Marvel fans have taken to ruminating on where the MCU could go once the current Phase of the franchise wraps up with the still-untitled Avengers 4. Unfortunately, we’ve already been told that it’ll be some time yet before we really learn more about what the studio has planned for us post-Avengers 4. And honestly, that’s understandable. After all, they’ve got their hands more than full for the next year or two with a number of high profile releases all cooking in the oven, ready to excite and thrill audiences.

Still, small tidbits about which direction the next Phase of Hollywood’s most lucrative franchise will head in are beginning to slip out and this week, we’ve got an interesting quote from Ant-Man star Evangeline Lilly to dissect. Speaking to Vanity Fair in a recent interview, the actress noted that the tone of Phase Four has already begun to emerge, and it’s one that she describes as “more playful and colorful.”

“The color of the new Phase can be clearly seen emerging through Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor: Ragnarok. It’s just a more colorful, more playful, heightened reality that we’re going to enter.”

Sure, that’s not much to go on, but given that all three of those films she mentioned were well liked by both critics and audiences, this is sure to please fans. That more playful tone definitely came through in movies like Ant-Man and the GotG flicks, while Ragnarok was easily the most colorful and visually stimulating MCU effort to date. If Phase Four is going to follow on in a similar fashion, then that certainly bodes well for the franchise.

Beyond Infinity War and its record-breaking first trailer, Marvel Studios will batten down the hatches in preparation for Avengers 4. It’s currently penciled in for release on May 3rd, 2019, so there’s still plenty of time for Kevin Feige and Co. to drum up excitement for what they consider to be the “finale” of Phase Three, before moving into the “more colorful and playful” Phase Four.
