It Reboot Places Third On YouTube’s Most-Watched Trailers Of 2017

At 45 million, Warner Bros. and New Line's spooky promo for It has become the third most-watched YouTube trailer of 2017.

Only Avengers: Infinity War (88 million) and Thor: Ragnarok (46 million) generated more YouTube trailer views than New Line’s adaptation of It, which placed third with a staggering 45 million.

That’s higher than even Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which garnered 42 million for its initial teaser – for the record, The Last Jedi‘s full-length trailer racked up 39 million views through Lucasfilm’s own channel. And that’s something worth keeping in mind: these figures represent the trailers uploaded through YouTube’s official channels (Star Wars, Warner Bros. Pictures, Marvel), and don’t take into account those views that were collected on third-party channels.

That explains why Avengers: Infinity War was able to set a new record with 230 million views across a 24-hour period – It, meanwhile, scared up 197m global views across the same period – in case you’re wondering why these view counts are relatively low when compared to YouTube’s other heavy-hitters. Besides, music labels typically hold a stricter ownership over their videos, allowing for a single, concentrated stream of traffic; whereas films often launch nine kinds of promos in anticipation of release. Just look at Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

All in all, it’s a remarkable achievement for New Line’s It, and these stats further prove that 2017 has been a banner year for the horror genre – Split, Get Out, Cult of Chucky, Alien: Covenant, Jigsaw, Annabelle: Creation…the list goes on.

However, soon after Pennywise sinks his teeth into Digital HD on December 19th, It will officially slither onto Blu-ray and DVD on January 9th. And yes, it’ll feature scores of special features and deleted scenes – most of which reportedly revolve around the Losers Club. Following that, Derry’s tight-knit band of freaks and geeks will be back on September 6th, 2019 to confront the rejuvenated Pennywise once and for all.
