Harley Quinn To Headline Her Own Solo Movie That Will Pivot Her Away From The Joker

Margot Robbie's Clown Princess of Crime will soon headline her own Harley Quinn spinoff movie, according to a new report.

If you’ve been keeping track of the DC Extended Universe (and if you’re reading this, chances are you have), then you’ll know Harley Quinn is primed for a big, big future in Warner’s fledgling superhero franchise. And that’s even when you consider the imminent overhaul brought on by Justice League and its dismal performance.

With Gotham City Sirens and a Suicide Squad sequel already on the cards, Margot Robbie’s Clown Princess of Crime has also been earmarked for a brand new spinoff movie, one that will presumably signal a reunion between her and Jared Leto’s Joker. Details of the anti-hero flick are few and far between, but just last week, we learned that Robbie has also been developing another Harley Quinn-centric movie for the past two years.

It’ll seemingly be a vehicle for the so-hot-right-now actress, while also establishing Harley as a fully-fledged character in her own right. These are just some of the DC-related assertions made over on ResetEra, after a newly-unveiled post claimed to have pinpointed Justice League‘s production woes, along with the ‘fact’ that Joss Whedon will no longer helm Batgirl for Warner Bros.; instead, he’ll merely provide the screenplay.

Which brings us to the inimitable Harley Quinn. Word is Margot Robbie holds a producer role on both Gotham City Sirens and the Joker and Harley Quinn movie, so it’s nigh on certain that the actress has some degree of creative control on her own standalone movie.

It’s yet to be confirmed, of course, but here’s the latest rumor doing the rounds:

I heard Harley Quinn was getting her own solo film. Warners want to pivot Quinn away from the Joker’s girlfriend to a character in her own right a’la Wonder Woman. Apparently, Robbie is totally behind this and is eager to play the character in a slate of films…but what happens if she wins some big awards for I, Tonya? Who knows.

Next up for the DCEU is the launch of Aquaman in December of 2018, before all eyes turn toward the long-awaited Suicide Squad sequel. It’ll likely herald our next true glimpse of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and after that? Who knows, but we’ll be keeping you posted as more information comes to light.
