Karen Gillan Likens Avengers: Infinity War To A “Cinematic Event”

Joe and Anthony Russo's Avengers: Infinity War is more than a film in the eyes of Karen Gillan (Nebula), it's a cinematic event.

Avengers: Infinity War is many things to many people.

For Marvel, it’s the deadliest showdown – the culmination of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and all of its intricacies, while IMDb has already gone ahead and crowned Infinity War as 2018’s most-anticipated movie. Impressive though that may be, Joe and Anthony Russo’s crossover is more than a film in the eyes of Karen Gillan – it’s a cinematic event.

While promoting her involvement in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Gillan, who plays the role of Nebula across both Infinity War and James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, had this to say about the 2018 ensemble piece. All roads have led to this, essentially:

I mean, this is so vague but genuinely this is going to be more than a movie, it’s going to be like a cinematic event. Anyone who is a Marvel fan and knows stuff from 10 years ago will see it become relevant in this. It’s like everything that you’ve known about Marvel is building to this movie.

As one of Marvel’s leading ladies, Karen Gillan has also been fairly vocal about the possibility of an all-female entry in the MCU. Flanked by the likes of Brie Larson, Zoe Saldana and Black Widow herself, Scarlett Johannson, the actress recently pitched the idea to head honcho Kevin Feige, who seemed overly keen on the idea – even if nothing is set in stone.

Via IndieWire:

Brie Larson was like, ‘We should go up to Kevin Feige and tell him to make an all-female Marvel movie,’ so we all marched up there in a group, a whole herd of us, and said that to him. He was like, ‘Yeah, that would be amazing!’ but he didn’t really commit to it, but he thought it would be a great idea. Now is the time, more than ever. Look at the success of Wonder Woman. It’s clear that we all want that.

Frankly, we couldn’t agree more. Marvel has such a rich character roster at its disposal that it would be foolish to write off the chances of a female-driven blockbuster. The addition of Fox’s X-Men will surely complicate matters, but we live in hope.

Next up for Karen Gillan is the release of Avengers: Infinity War on May 4th, 2018, and we’re quietly confident that either Infinity War or Avengers 4 will give Nebula the chance to get her own back on Thanos, Marvel’s Mad Titan.
