On the eve of Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel is battening down the hatches in anticipation of Black Panther, the Ryan Coogler-directed spinoff that cordially invites viewers into Wakanda.

If you’re not at all familiar with T’Challa’s backyard, Wakanda is the Marvel equivalent of a high-tech utopia, one rich in the fictional metal of vibranium. It’s the lifeblood of Captain America’s famous shield, not to mention the Black Panther suit, which itself is due for a major upgrade next month.

And now that Coogler’s standalone pic has been named as one of 2018’s most-anticipated films, the studio is taking fans even deeper into the spinoff by delivering the character bios you’ll see in the gallery down below. Highlighting all the main players – T’Challa, Okoye, Nakia, Shuri, Killmonger and more – we get a few new tidbits of information outlining their motivations and what role they’ll play in the story.

True, a lot of what’s here is stuff we already knew, but like we said above, there are some fresh details and for those eagerly anticipating Black Panther‘s arrival next month, these character bios will surely be appreciated. After all, when it comes to the MCU, Wakanda and its many major players have yet to really be explored and if you don’t read comic books, you’ll likely be unfamiliar with these characters. That’s no doubt one of the reasons the studio is working so hard to acquaint us with them ahead of T’Challa’s solo outing and so far, they’ve done a pretty good job.

Several months before Thanos touches down on Earth, Marvel and Ryan Coogler will launch Black Panther into theaters on February 16th. Also, true to the source material, it’ll feature a predominantly African-American cast, which only has us all the more excited as the studio opens its doors onto uncharted territory.
