Maybe it’s almost time to punch it, after all?
Amid rumors that Disney and Lucasfilm had earmarked Solo: A Star Wars Story‘s first trailer for mid-January, reports are now pointing to a debut next month instead, meaning we haven’t got long before we get to clock eyes on Alden Ehrenreich as the galaxy’s greatest smuggler.
Flanked by Emilia Clarke and Donald Glover as the ice-cool Lando Calrissian, Ehrenreich has been tasked with delivering a younger version of Han Solo, arguably one of the greatest Star Wars characters of all time – no pressure, then. And let’s face it, part of Solo’s charm was that his backstory largely remained under wraps throughout Lucasfilm’s original trilogy, so we can’t help but fear that Howard and Co. are at risk of ruining – or at the very least tarnishing – that sense of mystery.
But let’s reserve any judgment until Disney is ready to launch that first-look trailer, shall we? Speaking of which, Metro believes that the reason the preview has been delayed is due to the recent reshoots. According to them, Lucasfilm wants to include a few new shots in the trailer and the outlet points to the notorious Mike Zeroh for more information on exactly why things have been held up.
“The trailer was supposed to come out on a date which was delayed due to pick-up shots. These will involve two characters, Han Solo and Lando Calrissian, portrayed by Donald Glover. These will be done on a studio and not on location. This is the main reason why the trailer is delayed.”
Given that the reshoots are getting underway tomorrow and will last a week or two, that indicates an early to mid-February debut for the first Solo trailer. The Super Bowl could be a good place to premiere it, but it could also get overshadowed by everything else being showcased that night.
If you ask us, we imagine a premiere on Good Morning America is on the cards, as initial rumors pointed to the Disney-owned show being the one to debut it earlier this month, before it got delayed. But you can chalk that up as speculation for now as the studio has yet to make an official announcement.
What we can tell you with absolute certainty though is that Solo: A Star Wars Story blasts into theaters on May 25th and it’ll chronicle the origins of the great Han Solo.
