Mark Millar Wants Thor: Ragnarok’s Tessa Thompson As The New Kick-Ass

Mark Millar's successful Kick-Ass comics have already spawned two live-action movies starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the ad-hoc hero Dave Lizewsky. However, an upcoming follow-up comic from the writer is set to bring in a second version of Kick-Ass, with single mother Patience Lee taking on the mantle and donning the familiar green and yellow suit. So, who could play Patience if there was a Kick-Ass 3? Well, Millar himself has an idea.

The creator took to Twitter to clear up a common question that fans ask him by naming Thor: Ragnarok star Tessa Thompson as his top pick to play the new Kick-Ass on the big screen, describing the actress as the “one choice [that] really jumps out.”

In response to another fan who suggested Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency actress Jade Eshete as another potential Patience, Millar clarified why Thompson remained his number one pick. He singled out how he feels she could portray the various aspects of the character best, including her “formidable” nature but with a “very likeable softness” too.

In another Tweet, Millar revealed that the actress and the character are even exactly the same age.

As far as we know, a further Kick-Ass movie isn’t actively in the works right now, though there have been discussions about a closer to the trilogy since Kick-Ass 2 came out in 2013. That said, there’s speculation that Millar’s recent deal with Netflix could mean that some sort of project set in the Kick-Ass world might be coming to the streaming service at some point.

In the meantime, several more of Millar’s works are currently in the process of being adapted to the screen. Chrononauts was said to be in the scripting stage last year and not too long ago, we learned that Nemesis is being developed as a feature by Warner Bros.

While we await any further news on a potential trilogy closer for Kick-Ass, the first issue of the new comic book series will hit stores on February 14th.
