After losing its writers a few months back amidst the John Lasseter scandal, many feared that Toy Story 4 would only continue to slip even further into development hell. Thankfully, though, that’s not the case, as Deadline is reporting tonight that Pixar has roped in a brand new scribe in the form of Stephany Folsom.
Though not a household name by any stretch of the imagination, Folsom turned heads recently with her Black List script 1969: A Space Odyssey Or: How Kubrick Learned To Stop Worrying And Land On The Moon, “an alternate-history story of a publicist who convinces filmmaker Stanley Kubrick to work with NASA in order to fake the moon landing.” Furthermore, she also did some uncredited work on Thor: Ragnarok.
Once slated for arrival in 2016, Toy Story 4 has already nailed down Tom Hanks and Tim Allen to reprise their roles as Woody and Buzz Lightyear, respectively, though beyond that, details on the project are understandably scarce. Granted, IMDb claims that the film will follow “Woody and Buzz as they go on an adventure to find the one toy who was given away… Bo Peep,” but we’re not sure how accurate that is.
It should also be noted that Toy Story 4 has previously been pitched as a love story between Woody and Bo Peep. Considering that the latter of Andy’s beloved toys was entirely absent from Toy Story 3, it’ll be interesting to see how their relationship pans out in the final feature, and we understand that Annie Potts will be lending her vocal chords to Woody’s long-time love interest.
As far as we know, Toy Story 4 is still slated for release in June of 2019. Closer to home, though, the creative minds of Pixar are currently preparing The Incredibles 2, which is set to smash into theaters on June 15th.
