What with its city-leveling spectacle and interdimensional portals, the Battle of New York left a huge imprint on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and one need only look to Spider-Man: Homecoming and its decision to include alien weaponry left over from the Chitauri invasion.
Turns out Adrien Toomes wasn’t the only crooked warmonger combing the Big Apple in search of alien tech, though; thanks to Avengers: Infinity War Prelude #1, the first in a two-part companion piece for Marvel’s titanic crossover, we now know that Chitauri-fueled weapons found their way to the Middle East.
Written and illustrated by Will Corona Pilgrim and Tigh Walker, respectively, the Infinity War prelude comes packing a whole host of brand new intel, as it checks in on a sedated Bucky Barnes, the lonely Tony Stark and a Hawkeye who is now beginning to take the first steps into an early retirement – even if it’ll presumably be cut short once Thanos descends on planet Earth in search of the fabled Infinity Stones.
As for Captain America, well, he’s been keeping busy – much to the dismay of militant groups hoping to get their grubby hands on Chitauri weaponry. Flanked by Sam Wilson (Falcon) and Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow), above you’ll see him sabotage an illegal arms deal, which was seemingly made possible by the U.S. Government.
It’s no wonder that Steve Roger begins to doubt his superiors in Infinity War – a revelation that will lead him on the path to Nomad, according to Joe Russo.
Yeah, he’s in, I think we had mentioned this previously, it’s no surprise and I think you see it in the trailer is that he is embracing the spirit of Nomad. It was always our intent from the moment we got involved with that character to deconstruct him. That’s what we like, that’s what we find interesting. It’s what Soderbergh responded to in our initial work.
Look for Avengers: Infinity War to stake a claim for the box office throne on May 4th.
