First Trailer For The Cloverfield Paradox Arrives, Premieres Tonight On Netflix

One of the most highly anticipated trailers the Super Bowl has brought us is our first look at Cloverfield 3, the latest enigmatic movie from the sci-fi anthology series produced by J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot production company.

Ahead of this first preview, talk about the movie really began to heat up, with reports claiming that the actual title of the film could be Cloverfield Station and that it might even be released via Netflix. But now, we’ve finally got some answers as to just what’s coming down the pipeline, and we’re wildly intrigued.

Sparked by Matt Reeves’ 2008 found-footage alien invasion movie, the Cloverfield franchise has unexpectedly become one of the most intriguing around. When it was followed up by 2016’s 10 Cloverfield Lane, a brilliantly claustrophobic thriller from director Dan Trachtenberg, it was revealed that the plan was to create a series of separate but interconnected films, like a cinematic version of Black Mirror.

Now, we arrive at Cloverfield 3, which we can tell you is actually titled The Cloverfield Paradox. Not only that, but as this first teaser reveals, the film will premiere tonight on Netflix. Yes, tonight. It’s an absolutely unprecedented move and took just about everyone by surprise. But then again, it’s also not out of character for this particular franchise.

Helping to bring the third entry to life is a very talented cast that includes Daniel Bruhl (Captain America: Civil War), Elizabeth Debicki (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Beauty and the Beast), Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids) and David Oyelowo (Selma). As for the story, the official synopsis teases it as so:

“A team of astronauts aboard an international space station find themselves alone after a scientific experiment involving a particle accelerator makes the Earth vanish. When a space shuttle appears, the space station crew must fight for survival following their horrible discovery.”
