Chris Hemsworth Is Open To The Idea Of Playing James Bond

Despite Daniel Craig being officially locked in to star as 007 one more time in the upcoming Bond 25, the discussion rages on over who should play the iconic hero next after he hangs up his Aston Martin car keys for good. By this point, it seems that every actor under the sun has been linked with the part, but there's always room to add another, right?

For instance, Marvel’s Chris Hemsworth was asked if he would consider playing James Bond while appearing on Australian morning news show Sunrise. Like any sane actor, he of course said that he would, though he did humbly point out that he believes many other performers would be better suited to the role.

“Yeah, I mean, I think any actor would jump at that opportunity. I’m certainly a fan. A whole lot of pressure comes with that, though. I think the Bond fan base is probably more critical than the comic book fanbase. I don’t know, there’s plenty of guys who could do a better job than I would. Plenty of English men, and women.”

Obviously, the Thor star’s comments about an English actor (or actress!) landing the part sound sensible, as Bond is famously an agent of Queen and country. However, Hemsworth actually has as much chance as anyone. As 007 fans will know, only two of the six actors to play the part so far have been born in England. While Craig and Roger Moore are English, Sean Connery is Scottish, Timothy Dalton is Welsh, Pierce Brosnan is Irish and George Lazenby is Australian – just like Hemsworth.

Chris isn’t the only member of the Thor cast to be linked with MI6’s finest, either. Idris Elba – who plays the Asgardian Heimdall in the MCU – has long been a fan favourite to play the part, though the actor has frequently denied that he’s been approached. Back in 2016, it was also reported that Loki himself, Tom Hiddleston, was in talks to nab the coveted role, after his leading turn in spy drama The Night Manager proved he had the chops.

As we say, though, Daniel Craig remains the one and only James Bond for the time being, with Bond 25 pencilled in for a November 8th release. Hemsworth, meanwhile, will next play the God of Thunder in May’s Avengers: Infinity War.
