Titan Comics has revealed that their line of Doctor Who comics will be rebooted at some point in 2018 with the new centerpiece being a series starring the Thirteenth Doctor. The comic will be written by Jody Houser (Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows, Star Wars: Rogue One) and illustrated by Rachel Stott, who previously worked on Titan’s The Twelfth Doctor series.

While this is welcome news, it’s not that surprising. Titan has completely embraced the opportunity to produce as many Doctor Who comics as possible since they first got the license to do so in 2014. Though the flagship series is the one starring Peter Capaldi’s most recent Time Lord, The Tenth Doctor, The Eleventh Doctor and The Ninth Doctor are also ongoing series that are still selling strong. Miniseries like The Eighth Doctor, The Third Doctor and The Fourth Doctor have also been produced, not to mention the line of comics based on spinoff Torchwood.

Judging by Titan’s previous output, it’s likely that the comics will hue fairly closely to the TV series. Which means that the books will have to juggle several companions, as Whittaker’s Doctor is set to be joined by three new time-travelling pals in the new run; Bradley Walsh will play Graham, Tosin Cole is Ryan and Mandip Gill will portray Yasmin.

Filming on Doctor Who season 11 is currently underway, with recent set photos suggesting at least one episode will see the TARDIS land in 1960s America, in the midst of the Civil Rights movement – particularly the Rosa Parks incident. Titan Comics’ The Thirteenth Doctor, meanwhile, will arrive in stores later this year, though the new line will be previewed in a Doctor Who Free Comic Book Day comic in May.
