Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Is Going To Be “Pretty Special”

As you surely know, there's quite a lot going on with the Spider-Man property right now. Of course, Peter Parker himself is swinging around the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his next appearance set to be in Avengers: Infinity War. Beyond that, though, we've also got some stuff coming down the pipeline from Sony. Namely, Venom and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Of course, Peter Parker himself is swinging around the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his next appearance set to be in Avengers: Infinity War. The latter has been making headlines lately with some interesting reports, and though it’s still pretty far off, the project is certainly shaping up to be something that Spidey fans are going to want to check out. Or at least, that’s according to Liev Schreiber, who has an as-yet-unrevealed villainous role in the pic.

Speaking to Collider in a recent interview, the actor wasn’t afraid to throw a little bit of hype out, saying the following about why he decided to join the project:

It was actually the animation team. The guys who are working on it, I saw their work and said, “Wow! These guys are special.” And it is. It’s going to be pretty special, from what I’ve seen so far. And I haven’t seen much, but it’s pretty special. They’re super-talented. … That’s what I love about it. But it also is anamorphic … ohh I don’t know if I should have said that. [laughs]

Continuing on, he stated:

If you know something about film, that’s an amazing thing for an animated film to do that well. Anamorphic is the stretched-out format and it really is a much broader, bigger canvas, which is unusual for animation because you’re generally trying to focus the action. These guys have decided to go anamorphic with it and it’s stunning. If you’ve

Of course, it’s nothing out of the ordinary for an actor to try and hype up a film they’re working on, but we have no reason to doubt what Schreiber’s saying here. True, we haven’t seen much of Into the Spider-Verse yet, but that first trailer was certainly impressive.

The visuals were absolutely gorgeous, with a cel animation style that works perfectly, and there was also the interesting tease that there are multiple versions of Spider-Man in this universe which, of course, opens up tons of storytelling possibilities. We’ll reserve final judgement until we’ve seen more, but so far, we’re definitely on board.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse stars Shameik Moore as Miles Morales and Mahershala Ali as Aaron Davis/The Prowler, along with Schreiber, and swings into theaters on December 14th.
