When Justice League initially hit theaters back in November, Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon’s DC mega-movie was picked apart to within an inch of its life – so just like every other superhero movie before it, then.
But with Justice League, things were different. Leading up to release, viewers began to grow increasingly concerned that Warner’s cinematic crossover was doomed – the director changeover, the extensive reshoots…you name it – only to have those fears realized on November 17th, when Justice League fell flat at the domestic box office.
Be that as it may, there’s a small pocket of DC fans out there who have rallied around Justice League, particularly now that the film is approaching its long-anticipated Blu-ray launch. There’s also a ton of extras to look forward to, and though some initially expressed their disappointment at the deleted scene involving Superman – an extended version of the Man of Steel’s resurrection, one that skipped theaters entirely, turned out to be only two minutes in length – eagle-eyed DC fans continue to uncover one Easter egg after another. And the latest has been confirmed outright by Zack Snyder himself.
Via Twitter, one curious fan theorized that Justice League‘s deleted scene was actually a callback to Man of Steel and, specifically, this speech from Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner):
All these changes that you’re going through, one day… one day you’re gonna think of them as a blessing; and when that day comes, you’re gonna have to make a choice… a choice of whether to stand proud in front of the human race or not.
And sure enough, it seems this particular fan theory was right on the money, as Zack Snyder reached out via Vero (h/t Heroic Hollywood) to confirm that, yes, Justice League included a poignant callback to Henry Cavill’s DCEU debut.
