Fox Will Release Three Marvel Films In 2019, With Three More To Come In 2020

Say what you want about Fox and how they've handled their Marvel movies in the past, but I feel they've done a fine job in recent years, especially when it comes to finding the right tone for various films focused on certain characters. Really, if you need more proof, one needn't look any further than Deadpool and Logan.

As it so happens, the studio has no intention of slowing down, effectively planning several X-Men and Fantastic Four-themed spinoffs. In fact, one Fox insider told this to The Hollywood Reporter:

“We actually have way more in development and production in Marvel IP than at any point in the history of the studio. There’s been zero slowdown on that front given Disney.”

Furthermore, the trade went on to say that “the studio also is planning three X-Men movies for 2019, with another three expected the following year.” We know that one of those slated for 2019 will be that of the delayed New Mutants flick, but it’s understandable if you’re wondering about the others.

Right now, we implore you to recall recent news of a Kitty Pryde movie set to be penned by none other than legendary comic book scribe Brian Michael Bendis, as well as the troubled Gambit picture. Either of those could fit nicely into the studio’s agenda for 2019 or 2020, but the latter is in “I’ll believe it when I see it” territory, at least for me.

Granted, the report did say “X-Men” when it came to those undefined theatrical dates, but we can’t rule out those Doctor Doom and Silver Surfer spinoffs we heard about this morning, either. If indeed they go with those options, let’s just hope they get the right filmmakers to finally crack the Fantastic Four code because it sure hasn’t happened yet.

To be honest, my better judgment says that X-Force is probably the most solid bet of any Marvel flick to see the light of day during that span of time, especially after the expected success to be enjoyed by Deadpool 2. Speaking of which, Deadpool 3 and another mainline entry into the X-Men franchise are also strong possibilities, but it’s ultimately in the hands of Fox at this point.
