Zack Snyder and the Justice League

Justice League Fan Launches Fundraiser For Zack Snyder Cut Documentary

The Justice League fallout has been fast, furious and, at times, difficult to examine from afar. But if there's one thing we do know, it's that Zack Snyder stepped aside mid-way through production to allow Joss Whedon (Avengers, Batgirl) to shepherd Warner's big-name blockbuster over the finish line. Back then, it was reported that Snyder was taking time off to deal with a family tragedy, leaving the Powers That Be with little choice but to hire a replacement in the midst of filming.

But if there’s one thing we do know, it’s that Zack Snyder stepped aside mid-way through production to allow Joss Whedon (AvengersBatgirl) to shepherd Warner’s big-name blockbuster over the finish line. Back then, it was reported that Snyder was taking time off to deal with a family tragedy, leaving the Powers That Be with little choice but to hire a replacement in the midst of filming.

Whedon’s sudden appointment led to a series of extensive reshoots, according to multiple sources, and ever since the tentpole hit theaters, fans have been crying out for the studio to release Zack Snyder’s cut of the movie. Whether such a thing even exists has been the subject of much debate over the past few months, but some people just won’t let it die and now, Roberto Mata, the same individual who started the original petition for the Snyder cut back in November, is creating a fundraiser for, get this, a documentary about the whole situation.

Taking to Change.org, here’s what he wrote:

The fundraiser money will go to a documentary on Zack Snyder’s Justice League Director’s Cut, the search for the truth on what really happened and whether or not the film will ever be released bis ongoing and maybe a documentary about it, might help the cause I started with the petition.

At the moment, Mata has raised just $80 of his $4,000 goal, but it’s also still very early days. We imagine he’ll be able to hit his mark with no trouble, given that his original petition went viral and there’s a huge amount of DC fans who desperately cling onto the hope that a Zack Snyder cut of Justice League exists somewhere, probably locked away in the WB vaults.

In all reality, though, we can’t imagine that being the case. Snyder got fired from the production pretty early on from what we understand, and while we know that something of his was definitely screened for WB execs, it’s widely assumed that it was nothing more than an extremely rough cut that would take a fair bit of money to complete – which, given how much the studio’s lost on the film already, we don’t imagine they’d be willing to do.

Still, it doesn’t hurt to hold out hope and with any luck, maybe something interesting will come of this proposed documentary on the Zack Snyder cut of Justice League.
