It seems Avengers: Infinity War wasn’t the only Marvel project to receive a new release date today, as Exhibitor Relations brings word of six – count ’em, six – untitled MCU movies that have found their place on the ever-evolving Disney slate.
The first feature film will see a release on May 7th, 2021, followed by an additional five on July 30th, 2021, November 5th, 2021, February 18th, 2022, May 6th, 2022 and, finally, July 29th, 2022. Further details on each project weren’t disclosed at the time of writing, as it’s unlikely that Marvel Studios will play its hand until Infinity War lights up theaters in May – or, by the same token, the launch of Avengers 4 in 2019.
It’s a movie that’s been described as a bona fide climax to the MCU thus far, leaving it to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 to pick up the pieces in 2020. And after that? Well, if nothing else, today’s status report is further proof that Marvel has no intention of taking the foot off the pedal anytime soon, and will adhere to its quota of three films per year until at least 2022.
There’s also the very real possibility that at least one of these release dates has been reserved for the first Marvel-backed X-Men movie – you know, providing that Disney-Fox mega-merger closes as planned. Whatever the case, by 2021, the two-part war against Thanos will have reached its conclusion, which tells us that Phase 4 of the MCU will be drastically different to everything that’s come before.

Let the speculation commence. Chances are Marvel Studios will begin to peel back the layers of its 2021 slate soon after the release of Avengers 4 in 2019, so keep your peepers peeled. Up next is the aforementioned Infinity War, which will now debut worldwide on April 27th, 2018.
